Paper Birch trees (Betula papyrifera), with their distinctive bark, are
considered by many to be the most attractive trees in North America.
Native Americans used the bark when making baskets and canoes and early
settlers placed sheets of the bark beneath cedar shingles when building
houses, as a form of weatherproofing.
This piece depicts four different swatches of
birch bark, showing the wide range of color and texture within the
various layers of the bark. Shown in 3/4" Natural frame.
